Linear vs. non-linear conversions
Length, mass, area, volume, speed, and data storage all use simple multiplication because they share a common zero point:
Temperature is different. Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin don't share a common zero, so conversions require offset-based formulas:
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
K = °C + 273.15
